Roselle Foot Doctor

If your feet have bunions, you know the pain and discomfort they can cause you. However, there is no need to suffer with this foot problem. At AFP Podiatry, Dr. Phillip Forni, can help you solve your painful bunion problem. Our Roselle/Norridge foot doctor has is a double board certified podiatric physician and is an expert in all problems relating to the feet and ankles.

Bunions are definitely a condition that will detract from the beauty of the foot, but bunions can also interfere with the function of the foot as well. A bunion is actually an alignment problem of the first toe, also called the hallux or big toe. In the big toe there is a phalangeal joint. When there is a bunion deformity, the metatarsal bone drifts away from other metatarsals, and the front of the foot becomes wider. One of the most obvious problems of the bunion patient is that they begin to have problems finding shoes that fit. The foot becomes very wide, and as the bunion increases in size so does the width of the foot. As the first metatarsal moves away from the other metatarsals, the big toe begins to lean toward the other toes. This causes the patient to experience pain when walking because the big toe joint rubs against the shoe. Our Roselle/Norridge foot doctor will be able to help you correct this painful problem.

Foot bunions can be treated in a more conservative way, or advanced bunions can be corrected using bunion surgery. It all depends on the development of the bunion and the needs of the patient. Our Roselle foot doctor will be able to help you in either case. For conservative bunion treatment Dr. Forni can: advise the patient as to which kinds of shoes to wear to help alleviate the problem; prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs or provide cortisone injections to reduce both pain and inflammation; and fit the patient for custom orthotic devices. If none of these measures are able to reduce the foot pain to the point where you can go about your daily life comfortably, Dr. Forni can perform foot surgery which will relieve the pressure and return the toe joint to its normal position. There is absolutely no reason why you should suffer from bunion pain. If you would like to meet with Dr. Forni and see what he can do to help you, contact our office today.
