Running Shoes in Norridge

Here at AFP Podiatry – Norridge, our Norridge podiatrist, Dr. Forni, has a lot of runners as patients. Many of our patients who love running often have questions about the running shoes they should buy in order to keep their feet in good shape and pain-free. Wearing the wrong running shoes can really take a toll on your performance, and can greatly increase the likelihood of developing an injury. In order to figure out which running shoe is best for you, you first need to determine what your foot type is. Foot types can be broken down into three main groups: pronators, supinators, and neutral feet. Pronators have what are considered “flat fleet,” and as a result they are prone to overpronation. Overpronation is when you have a gait in which the ankle rolls inward too often. Supinators are essentially the opposite. Supinators have arches in their feet that are too high, and then they experience underpronation, which is characterized by putting too much weight on the outsides of the feet. Neutral feet, then, are somewhere in between. Our Norridge podiatrist, Dr. Forni, can help you determine what your foot type is during your next appointment at AFP Podiatry – Norridge. In order to do so, we will perform a gait analysis, and from there we can make recommendations about the running shoes that will work best for you and best support your feet. We always have your health and comfort in mind.
